Week 07: Value of Rest
Friend, you have been working so hard in these last several weeks, challenging yourself physically and mentally. Let’s spend a few moments today talking about rest.
There is a reason that rest days are specifically embedded into this program and it is important not to overlook the importance of these days.Giving your body rest or recovery days allow your muscles time to repair.
Did you know that when you exercise, microtears occur in the muscles? Rest days provide your body with the time to heal those microtears, resulting in stronger and healthier muscles. And while physical exercise produces the hormones adrenaline and cortisol which are energy-boosting, if you skip regular rest days, your body over-produces these hormones, which can potentially interfere with sleep.
Treat your rest days like you would any other day in your schedule and challenge yourself to follow it!
Note to self: I am going to make you so proud you did this.

Daily assignments for the week ahead:
- M: 3 mile run, 5 min express yoga: hamstrings
- T: 4 mile run, 10 min express yoga: sun salutation b
- W: 40 min tempo run
- Th: Rest
- F: 4 mile run
- S: 20 min yoga for runners: lunges
- Su: 4.5 mile run, 10 min express yoga: balance
