Week 1: What is Resilience?
Let’s start with defining WHAT we are doing in this program, so we understand WHY we do it, and what you can learn from it.
Definitions
Yoga | In this program, yoga is a series of stretches and shapes we use in order to build resilience. In yoga, we practice bringing the mind, body, and breath together with movement, stretches, and strength-based shapes.
Mindfulness | Mindfulness is being in the present moment. It is peace, compassion, and self-observation without judgement. It is practicing kindness in thoughts, words, and actions both for oneself and for others.
Resilience | Resilience is the capacity to meet the needs of the moment, regardless of how much a situation might challenge us. It is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulty. It is mental toughness. It is acknowledging and feeling the feelings, addressing what comes up, and finding a path forward.
Where does yoga, mindfulness come from?
Yoga has been practiced and developed for 5,000 years. It originates in India. Mindfulness was originally part of yoga, and branched off to different parts of East Asia – Nepal, India, Korea, China.
