The Yamas are a set of guiding principles for how to be in community, how to be with others. These are guides for social behavior.
As we discussed in our introduction to the 8 limbs of yoga, and covered further in our Yamas + Niyamas class, today we dive deeper and explore, in a short practice, each of the yamas.
The Yamas include:
- Nonviolence
- Speaking truthfully
- Exercising restraint
- Honesty
- Generosity
We are each a strand in a complex, expansive, and connected world. How we are with ourselves will influence how we are with others. How we choose to show up affects our individual and collective experiences.
The two cannot be separated. The only difference is what we CHOOSE.
