The Niyamas are the second limb of yoga. They go a step farther in guiding us on ways in which we can care for ourselves.

This is the real work, friend. Self-reflection is not for the faint of heart. And yet – it’s critical if we wish to live a full and fulfilling life.

The Niyamas Include:

  • Purity
  • Contentment
  • Discipline
  • Spiritual Exploration
  • Divinity

Developing self-awareness is an important part of yoga practice, but it’s also a critical skill for living life in the modern age. As we, individually, begin to understand ourselves, our limitations, our needs, our expressions, and our fears and joys – we can then come to understand why we react and respond the way we do to a variety of circumstances that show up in our lives.

Why are we quick to react to some people / situations / opportunities – and yet slow or uncaring about others? Why do some of us feel so much passion and intrigue about subjects that others find.. Boring?

When we begin to understand ourselves on a deeper level, on what makes us tick, we can then build off of that to find more happiness, more joy, more contentment, more fulfillment.
